JX-D71CRA00004G05 CRADLE – ENGINE V2500 & CFM56-5A/-5B

2026-10-21

The JX-D71CRA00004G05 is a complete engine handling system engineered for the secure transport and storage of the CFM International CFM56-7 engine in QEC configuration. Fully compliant with CFMI specification 9970-957-889, this integrated air/road shipping stand combines a precision cradle and transport base into a single, collapsible unit designed for reliable aircraft engine handling operations.

Overall System Construction

The JX-D71CRA00004G05 system is built as a unified structural assembly. The upper cradle section forms the primary load-bearing interface with the engine. It is designed to hold the CFM56-7 engine securely and safely, incorporating precision pinning points that allow the powerplant to lock into position quickly and easily. Bootstrapping capabilities are built into the cradle to support all specified engine and aircraft interfaces, ensuring stable retention throughout handling and transit.

A dedicated document container is permanently secured to the base framework, providing protected storage for manuals and technical documentation during both transport and storage periods. The cradle section itself is engineered to collapse when empty, significantly reducing overall dimensions for efficient return shipping or storage of the unit without an engine installed.

The lower base section consists of a robust frame weldment that supports the complete assembly. It is equipped with four retractable, shock-absorbing caster wheel assemblies. Each caster features a 5-inch-wide by 10-inch-diameter polyurethane-tread wheel rated at 5,000 lbs capacity, together with standard position locks and face brakes. All four caster assemblies can be pinned in an elevated position, allowing the entire system—with engine installed—to be prepared for air or truck transport. A stowable tow bar is integrated into the base frame, and fourteen tie-down rings are distributed around the structure to provide secure attachment points for long-distance hauling. Built-in shock-absorbing mounts further cushion the assembly during all transport movements. Maximum recommended towing speed is 5 km/h (3 mph).

Materials and Finish

The entire JX-D71CRA00004G05 engine handling system is fabricated from structural steel shapes conforming to ASTM A500, A513, and A36 specifications. All bolted connections utilize A325 structural bolts or Grade 5 commercial hardware to maintain high load-bearing integrity under operational conditions.

The system is primed and finished with a high-grade, Skydrol-resistant, air-dry enamel. Optional color finishes are available. Pins and miscellaneous hardware are manufactured from corrosion-resistant materials or receive protective plating as required, supporting long-term durability in demanding aerospace environments.

Applicability and Operational Context

The collapsible cradle design, combined with the elevated-caster capability of the base, enables the complete JX-D71CRA00004G05 system to be shipped with the engine installed in the cargo bays of a wide range of aircraft. Compatible platforms include the B-747, B-747F, Transall, CL-44 Guppy, L-100 Hercules, C-130, DC-9, B-707, B-720, B-727, and B-737. This broad aircraft compatibility, together with the system’s compliance to CFMI specification 9970-957-889, makes the unit suitable for both air and road shipping of the CFM56-7 engine in QEC configuration.

Maintenance Considerations for Structural Longevity

By design, the JX-D71CRA00004G05 requires only minimal periodic servicing. Annual inspections for damage, weld cracks, or corrosion are recommended to confirm continued structural integrity. Prior to each use, the equipment should be examined for obvious signs of abuse or shipping damage; any observed damage requires a complete inspection of the affected area to ensure that structural integrity has not been compromised. Routine cleaning with a mild soap-and-water solution followed by thorough rinsing is sufficient to maintain the protective finish. When these simple practices are followed, the service life of the system can be extended indefinitely.

Through its integrated cradle-and-base construction, high-strength structural steel materials, precision engine retention features, and carefully engineered collapsible and transport capabilities, the JX-D71CRA00004G05 provides a complete, specification-compliant solution for the secure handling, storage, and multi-modal shipment of the CFM56-7 engine.
